Section J DTS Reports
The basic staple of Commercial Energy Efficiency reports, a Deemed to Satisfy (DTS) report is often your quickest and simplest pathway to a compliant solution.
A Section J DTS report will show whether your project design complies with the benchmark DTS requirements found in the National Construction Code. Our report will also show, in a clear accessible format, additional requirements not shown on the plans which will be necessary for the building design to comply.
Section J DTS reports are the lowest cost compliance pathway for commercial buildings and are the best starting point for many projects.
J1V3 Performance Solutions
J1V3 Performance Solutions are an alternative compliance pathway for projects where DTS requirements are too restrictive. They offer a flexible and powerful method for compliance that can often lead to a more efficient building that is better engineered and at a lower build cost.
Using 3D thermal modelling software, a BERA consultant will create a detailed model of the building, incorporating all relevant construction and design details. From this model, we calculate the thermal performance of the building and form the basis for the J1V3 assessment and report. Modelling allows much more versatile analysis of design options for the project.
While more expensive, J1V3 Performance Solutions can often lead to a better technical and construction-cost outcomes for projects, and are the preferred compliance pathway for many architects and designers.
Daylighting Assessments
Daylighting studies provide detailed data on the quantity and quality of natural daylight that enters a building. Good use of daylighting can materially reduce a building’s reliance on artificial lighting – in addition to improving the indoor environment quality for the building’s occupants.
Where a building does not comply with the Deemed to Satisfy provisions of the National Construction Code, detailed daylight modelling for the building can demonstrate compliance.
Our daylight modelling will quantify the “Average Daylight Factor” for the building (needed for compliance), in addition to other metrics which provide designers and architects the guidance they need.
